TAKE A DIRTY PICTURE FOR ME

A WHILE BACK I GLADLY CAME ACROSS TERRY RODGERS WORK AND I THINK IT'S SUBLIME. FOR ME IT'S THE COLOUR, THE PLAYFULNESS, THE EXPRESSION, THE PURE OPEN NAKEDNESS, THE CURIOSITY, THE STORY UNFOLDING AND THE CHEMISTRY THAT POPS OFF THE CANVAS. IT'S GOT ALL THE RIGHT INGREDIENTS FOR MY WALLS AND IT'S KINDA SEXY! AN AMERICAN FIGURATIVE PAINTER KNOWN FOR HIS LARGE SCALE CANVASES , RODGERS WORK FOCUSES ON PORTRAYING CONTEMPORARY BODY POLITICS AND TAKES INFLUENCES FROM FILM AND PHOTOGRAPHY. HIS IMAGE OF THE SOCIABLE UPPER-CLASS STANDS AS AN ICONIC SCENE OF TODAY’S SOCIETY. THE RESULTING PAINTINGS ARE NOT SNAPSHOTS OR SLICES OF LIFE OR RECORDS OF ACTUAL MOMENTS, BUT CAREFULLY CONSTRUCTED FICTIONAL COMPOSITIONS, DESIGNED TO DRAW OUT THE MOST MEANING AND YET KEEP US GUESSING. HE SAYS:

“MY PAINTINGS ARE LARGE, COMPLEX DESIGNS THAT ATTEMPT TO REFLECT MY SENSE OF THE TIMES WE ARE LIVING IN AND BOTH HOW RICHLY INTERESTING THEY ARE AND HOW DIFFICULT IT IS FOR MOST OF US TO NAVIGATE THEIR UNCHARTED WATERS.”
